An “Exercise in Uncertainty” is due out on June 10

Friends,

I’m excited to say that my memoir, An Exercise in Uncertainty, will be published on June 10, less than a month from today.

As many of you know, I was 38-years old and the first time father of a seven-month-old daughter when I was diagnosed, in 2003, with an incurable blood cancer called multiple myeloma. At the time, I was told I might have 18 months to live. That was twenty-one years ago. It’s not a stretch to say I’m something of a medical miracle.

An Exercise in Uncertainty is not only the story of how I survived. It’s also the story of how my illness has affected every part of my life, from my physical and mental health to my career, family, finances, and more. More broadly, it’s about how to cope with uncertainty of any kind, health-related or otherwise, and how to live a rich, meaningful, and fulfilling life, no matter what difficulties one faces. For anyone whose life has been touched by illness, or anyone at all, for that matter, I think (or hope, anyway) it has valuable things to say.

I’m proud to say that CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta has called the book “An exercise in compassion.” The novelist Richard Ford has said it offers “a vital lesson for us all in how to face and comprehend two of the basic facts that render us human: We die, but much more important, we live.” And New York Times bestselling author Robert Kolker has said, “Gluck examines one of life’s greatest challenges with insight and clarity, humility and unvarnished candor, tears and rage, and — amazingly — humor and hope.”

If you’d consider pre-ordering a copy (pre-orders are vital to the success of a book), I’d be immensely grateful. Positive reviews on digital retail sites are also helpful.

A portion of all sales will be donated to multiple myeloma research.
